ORCS  Subject-Area Awards

$250 cheque with each award

  • Given to the student with the highest academic standing for each area of study. Average must be over80%
  • The standing is calculated on the three highest grades the student has achieved in the eligible grade 11& 12 courses within that discipline. At least one course must be from each grade level. Coursestaken at ORCS will take precedence

ORCS Global Awards

$500 cheque with each award

Other than scholastic award, look at all four years of students’ high school experience.

  • In recognition of the highest average above 80% over all
    four Bible courses
  • Highest overall average of all Grade 12 courses (a minimum of six grade 12 credits (C, M, or U courses)
  • In recognition of exemplary positive contribution to the school overall, in participation, involvement, attitude and volunteer work. This award will be given after discussion between all secondary teachers. (Exceptions may be made for students who transfer into the ORCS high-school program)
  • In recognition of excellent scholastic effort for the student who shows interest, aptitude, and effort, but does not achieve an academic award. This award will be given after discussion between all secondary teachers

In recognition of exemplary positive coaching and leadership
opportunities, athletic skills, participation at tournaments, and in intramurals. A Male Sportsmanship Award and Female Sportsmanship Award may be awarded

In recognition of the student who displays exceptional talent in the fine/performing arts

Achievement of an 80% average in six grade 12 credits

  • Courses must be College, University/College, or University courses recognized under OSS
  • Awarded in the year of completion of OSSD, or in the year after completion of OSSD
Achievement of the highest average of all gr.11 & 12 courses

  • Awarded in the year of completion of OSSD, or in the year after completion of OSSD

Miscellaneous Awards & Scholarships

  • Awarded to one grade 9 student, given at a Monday Chapel assembly in September.
  • This student has shown good adjustment to the secondary school routines and expectations,has contributed well both in and out of the classroom, and shows great leadership potential
  • Awarded to students in grade 10, 11, 12
  • Awarded at a Monday Chapel assembly in September
  • Students must have achieved an 80% average on all of their full-credit courses taken the previous school year for both semesters with no marks below 65%.
  • Awarded to a minimum of 1 student after completing grade 10 and 11, given at a Chapel assembly in September.
  • This student(s) has shown significant improvement in attitude, effort, and academics compared to the previous year.
Any graduating grade 12 student who will be pursuing post-secondary studies in the Architectural Technologist, CET(certified engineering technologist), or Urban Planning programs is eligible to apply for this $2000 scholarship. An application form is available from the secondary guidance office. Applicants will be requested to submit a small write-up indicating their program of choice as well as why they are pursuing this program. All applicants will be reviewed by VanMar Constructors and one student will be selected.

  • $1,000scholarship
  • Any graduating grade 12 student who will be pursuing post-secondary studies in ACET, civil engineering, or architecture related programs is eligible to apply for this scholarship. Anapplication form is available from the secondary guidance office. Applicants will berequested to submit a small write-up indicating their program of choice as well as outline thereasons they are pursuing this program. All applications will be reviewed by Stubbe’s Precastand one student will be selected to receive this scholarship.

  • This award is in recognition of outstanding effort for the student who shows interest,improvement, and a disposition towards growth in practical, hands-on, career-oriented traits.Any graduating Grade 12 student who has participated in the Co-op program is eligible toapply for this award. Application forms are available from the Guidance office.

Offered by businesses or individuals may be awarded, subject to approval.

Teacher Bursary

PURPOSE

  • What is the purpose of the Schep’s Aspiring Christian School Teacher Bursary?
  • To encourage ORCS graduates to become qualified teachers devoted to Christianeducation, and
  • To provide financial assistance to ORCS alumni in their post-secondary teachertraining, and
  • To assist the ORCS community in their ongoing need for qualified, committedChristian school teachers.

APPLICANTS

Who should apply?

  • Grade 12 graduates who are strongly desirous of being a Christian school teacher,and have been accepted at a university or college with the intention of becoming aqualified teacher.
  • ORCS alumni with a general Bachelor of Arts/Science who desire to continue theirstudies at an accredited teacher’s college.

GENERAL DETAILS

Availability of these bursaries may vary depending on the number of
applications received. Bursaries are available upon acceptance into a B.Ed. program, upon successful completion of first year of teacher’s training, and upon successful completion of the final year of teacher training.
