HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION

The primary goal of the education is to build a Biblical worldview founded on enduring concepts and principles of truth.

In a Christian community, the school needs to support the role of the church and the family. However, the school’s priority is the education of the covenant children and young people. The primary goal of the educationis to build a Biblical worldview founded on enduring concepts and principles of truth. Therefore, it is not thepriority of ORCS to offer pre-vocational courses of study.

  • The ORCS Secondary Choir practices most Wednesdays during lunch in the foyer. The ORCS Chamber Choir also practices various days of the week after school.

EXTRACURRICULARS

Secondary students can be involved in several extracurricular options. Educational field trips are planned for the various classes throughout the year. The ORCS Student Parliament organizes a ski trip during the winter.Students can also participate in a variety of sports teams. ORCS has joined OCSAA, along with several otherlocal Christian Schools. This allows the students to compete against other schools in soccer, basketball, floorhockey, volleyball, baseball, and badminton. Intramurals are definitely a favourite way to spend the lunchhour!

Each year ORCS publishes a new Secondary Course Calendar, which lists and describes the upcoming courses which will be available, along with their prerequisites.

COMMUNITY HOURS

A total of 40 community hours are required to receive the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). More community hours may be completed and is encouraged.

ORCS SECONDARY DIPLOMA (ORCSSD)

To receive the Oxford Reformed Christian School Secondary Diploma (ORCSSD) students must acquire: 1 – additional Grade 11 or 12 Science credit, 4 – Religious Studies credits, 1 – Grade 11 or 12 Humanities credit &an additional 20 hours of community service.

ONTARIO SCHOLAR

To receive an Ontario Scholar award, also called honours, the high school graduate must attain an average of 80% or greater in their six best Grade 12 courses. This is something to keep in mind when choosing courses ifthis is one of your goals. Scholar/honour students have the privilege of wearing an honour cord with theirgrade 12 graduation gown. Please discuss your options with the Guidance Department.
